By the sixth question, the series reached one of the clearest policy divides already shaping Tennessee’s governor’s race: school vouchers.

Few education issues in Tennessee currently generate stronger reactions because the debate no longer exists only inside legislative chambers. It now reaches directly into family budgets, rural school systems, private-school access, district planning, and the broader question of what state government believes public education should protect first.

Supporters argue school choice gives families options where traditional systems are failing.

Opponents argue voucher expansion can weaken local public schools, especially in communities where private alternatives barely exist or where public systems already operate under pressure
